2024-2025 Tacoma Dash Mount Install, and MagSafe vs. Cradle on Washboard

Mountech dash mount installed in a 2024 Toyota Tacoma
Toyota Tacoma The 4th gen Tacoma dash was practically asking for a bolt-on mount. Check the screen size before you answer it.

A 2025 Tacoma phone mount and a 2024 Tacoma phone mount are the same part, with one condition: the truck has the 8" factory screen. The Mountech Tacoma dash mount is machined for that dash, installs at factory mounting points without drilling, and sits integrated above the screen where the phone belongs. This is the install, the arm, and the honest answer on magnet versus cradle for a truck that lives on gravel.

01 — Quick answer

Which Tacoma, Which Screen, Which Kit

Tacoma Screen Direct fit What to run
2024-2025 8" Yes Tacoma dash mount + arm + holder
2024-2025 14" Not yet The 8" mount does not carry over. Vacuum cup base + arm + holder.
2016-2023 (3rd gen) Not yet AMPS dash rail + 4-bolt base, or the vacuum cup base.

If your configuration is not on that table, we have not verified it. We would rather lose the sale than ship you a maybe.

02 — The hardware

What the Tacoma Dash Mount Is

A dedicated billet dash mount for the 2024+ Tacoma with the 8" screen. It uses the factory mounting points above the screen, so there is no drilling and no adhesive, and it ends in the 1" (25.4 mm) SpinLok ball that every Mountech arm clamps to. The look is factory; the phone sits above the screen in your peripheral vision, clear of the vents, inside easy reach.

03 — Placement

Why Above the Screen

Vent clips are the common Tacoma answer and the wrong one. Vent blades were never designed to carry weight, a big phone in a case sags and pops loose on washboard, and you lose the airflow you wanted. The windshield depends on your state; several restrict placement to defined zones, California among them. Above the screen is high enough to read, low enough to stay out of the statute books, and bolted to structure.

04 — The head

MagSafe or Cradle on Washboard

Both heads clamp to the same ball, so this is about how you drive. The magnetic, MagSafe-compatible holder is the one-handed option: MagSafe on iPhone 12 and newer, an included disc for everything else, wireless charging if you tick it. A Tacoma magnetic phone mount on a short arm holds for most drivers, most days.

The spring-loaded cradle grips mechanically. It is the one we would run on a washboard forest road, with a thick case, or with a battery pack on the phone, because a magnet through a pack is a weak magnet holding extra weight. Carry both heads if your truck sees both kinds of day; the swap takes ten seconds.

05 — The arm

Arm Length, Airbag, Cable

Arms come in 1.5", 3" and 6" socket-to-socket, each rated for 2 lb of device, billet aluminum with stainless hardware and one knob. Shorter is stiffer, and on a Tacoma that matters more than reach: run the 1.5" arm, or the 3" if you want the phone closer. Keep the phone and arm clear of the airbag covers when you set the angle, and route the charge cable along the arm with cable clips so it never crosses the screen.

06 — Install

Step by Step: Installing the Tacoma Dash Mount

  1. Confirm the 8" screen. If the truck has the 14" screen, stop here and run the vacuum cup base.
  2. Follow the install guide for the kit to set the dash mount at the factory mounting points above the screen. Basic hand tools, no drilling.
  3. Thread the SpinLok ball into the mount and snug it. The locking pins stop it spinning loose.
  4. Clamp the arm on the ball, the holder on the arm, finger tight.
  5. Put your phone in its case on the holder, set height and angle, tighten the single knob.
  6. Clip the cable, check the airbag clearance and your view over the hood, drive one gravel road, retighten once.
