The direct-fit dash mount for the 4th gen Tacoma, and what fits every other Toyota

Toyota Tacoma Phone Mounts: The Direct-Fit Dash Mount for the 4th Gen (2024+) & What to Run in Every Other Toyota

Where to mount a phone in a Tacoma depends entirely on which Tacoma. The 4th gen truck with the 8" screen has a dash that was practically asking for a bolt-on mount, so we built one. The 3rd gen has a rail ecosystem that our hardware plugs into. The 1st and 2nd gen trucks have neither, and the honest answer there is a vacuum cup base that actually holds.

The Mountech Toyota Tacoma phone mount is a billet dash mount machined for the 2024+ truck with the 8" factory screen. It installs at factory mounting points without drilling, sits integrated above the screen, and ends in a 1" (25.4mm) SpinLok ball that takes any Mountech arm and holder. No suction cup on the glass, no adhesive pad on a textured dash, no vent clip sagging under a big phone in a case.

This guide covers which Toyota phone mount fits your truck, the 8" vs. 14" screen question, where a phone actually belongs in a Tacoma, which holder to run on washboard, and what Tundra and 4Runner owners can run today. Already know your truck? Go straight to the Tacoma kit or pick your vehicle.

Which Toyota Phone Mount Fits Your Truck

Start here. A 2024 Tacoma phone mount and a 3rd gen Tacoma phone mount are different problems, and the screen size on a 4th gen truck decides whether the kit fits at all.

What a Tacoma Phone Mount Has to Survive

Washboard & forest roads

Tacomas live on gravel. Our SpinLok ball mounts resist backing off under vibration, so the angle you set is the angle you keep.

Billet, not plastic

The 4th gen dash mount is machined billet aluminum that bolts to factory points. Adhesive pads and plastic clips are what it replaces.

One 1" ball

Base, arm and holder meet at the same 1" (25.4mm) ball, so a phone today and a GoPro tomorrow run on the same hardware.

Buy It For Life

Warrantied against manufacturing defects and material failures for the life of the product. It should outlast the truck.

Screen vs. vent vs. windshield

Where to Mount a Phone in a Tacoma

Of all the 4th gen Tacoma accessories you could add, a dash mount is the one you touch every drive, and above or beside the screen is the spot. It keeps the phone in your peripheral vision without blocking the road, clear of the vents, and inside easy reach. That is exactly where the 4th gen dash mount puts it: integrated above the factory screen on a short arm.

Vent clips are the common answer and the wrong one. Vent blades were never designed to carry weight, a big phone in a case sags and pops loose on washboard, and the mount blocks the airflow you wanted.

The windshield depends on where you live. Several states restrict placement to defined zones, California among them. A dash mount avoids the question entirely.

Choose your head

MagSafe or Spring-Loaded Cradle?

Both heads fit the same Toyota Tacoma dash mount, so a Tacoma phone holder is purely a choice about how you drive. The magnetic, MagSafe-compatible holder is the fastest one-handed option: the phone lands on the magnet and comes off in one motion. It works with MagSafe on iPhone 12 and newer, non-MagSafe phones use the included magnetic disc, and wireless charging is an option.

The standard spring-loaded cradle grips mechanically. It is the safer pick for a thick case, a phone with no magnet ring, or a truck that sees genuinely rough forest roads.

A Tacoma magnetic phone mount is the popular choice. The cradle is what we would run on a washboard day.

How the Mountech Tacoma Dash Mount Installs

The 4th gen kit uses the factory mounting points above the 8" screen, so there is no drilling and no adhesive. It is a hand-tool job you can finish in the driveway, and the result looks like it came from the factory.

Above the base, the sequence is the same as every Mountech setup: SpinLok ball, billet aluminum socket arm, holder. Arms come in 1.5", 3" and 6" socket-to-socket lengths, each rated to 2 lb for heavy duty use. Shorter is stiffer, and on a Tacoma that matters more than reach. Watch airbag clearance and route the charge cable with a set of cable clips on the arm.

Our arm length guide covers which arm your dash needs, and installation guides and getting started with Mountech cover the rest. The launch post has the product photos.

One ball, many heads

Run a GoPro or a Second Phone on the Same System

Because every Mountech head shares the 1" ball, a second position costs an arm and a head rather than a whole new mount. Add the action camera / GoPro mount for trail footage, or a second holder for a navigator's phone.

Our bases also come in 2-bolt and 4-bolt AMPS patterns, which is what makes the 3rd gen rail route work: four holes at 30mm x 38mm, the AMPS standard, on any rail or bracket that has them. Our 1" ball mounts work with any other platform built around a 1" ball.

How to Choose the Best Phone Mount for Your Tacoma

1. Find your generation and your screen

4th gen with the 8" screen gets the direct-fit kit. 4th gen with the 14" screen, every 3rd gen, Tundra and 4Runner run universal hardware until a kit exists. Check the screen before you check the cart.

2. Keep the arm short

Length is leverage, and leverage is what shakes on washboard. The 1.5" or 3" arm is right for almost every Tacoma dash. Save the 6" arm for a tablet on a rail.

3. Head, case and cable

MagSafe if you want one-handed on and off, cradle if you run a thick case or no magnet ring. Then check where the charge cable lands and keep the phone clear of the airbag covers.

Tacoma Phone Mount FAQs

No. The kit is machined for the 2024+ Tacoma with the 8" factory screen, and it does not carry over to the 14" screen dash. For the 14" screen, run the heavy duty vacuum cup base with an arm and holder; they move to a direct-fit kit if one lands.

Not a direct-fit kit, no. The 3rd gen truck has a strong aftermarket of AMPS-slotted dash rails, and that is the route we recommend: add a rail, bolt on a Mountech 4-bolt base, then a SpinLok ball, arm and holder. You end up on the same 1" standard as the 4th gen kit. The vacuum cup base is the no-rail alternative.

The honest answer for a 1995-2015 truck is the vacuum cup base: a 4.5" die-cast aluminum cup that pulls a real mechanical vacuum against glass or a smooth dash panel, rated to a 120 lb pull, ending in a 1" ball. It is not a sticker that lets go in July.

Not yet. Both are on the bench with our engineering team, and we are not going to sell you a Tundra kit or a 4Runner kit we have not engineered for the truck. Today, the vacuum cup base runs the same arms and holders, and they carry over when the direct-fit base ships.

The 4th gen platform carried into 2025, so a 2025 Tacoma phone mount is the same kit as the 2024, listed for 2024-2025 trucks with the 8" screen. The screen size is still the thing to check, not the model year.

No. The 4th gen kit installs at factory mounting points above the screen, with no drilling and no adhesive. It is a hand-tool install.

For a 2024+ truck with the 8" screen, the direct-fit dash mount: billet, bolted at factory points, integrated above the screen. For a 3rd gen, an AMPS dash rail with a Mountech 4-bolt base gets you onto the same 1" standard. For everything older, the vacuum cup base. In every case, pair it with a 1.5" or 3" arm and the MagSafe holder for daily driving or the spring cradle for washboard. That is the best Tacoma phone mount we know how to build, and it carries the same lifetime warranty as everything else we make.

Above or beside the screen, which is where the dash mount puts it. It stays in your peripheral vision, clear of the vents and inside easy reach; keep the arm short and check airbag clearance when you set the angle. Vent clips sag on rough roads and block airflow, and windshield placement is restricted in several states.

The magnets in a MagSafe-compatible mount do not harm phone storage, batteries or screens; keep cards with magnetic stripes out of a wallet case and you are fine. On washboard, a MagSafe holder on a short arm holds for most drivers. If you run a heavy case or a battery pack, choose the spring-loaded cradle.

Yes. Mountech 1" SpinLok ball mounts and socket arms work with any mounting platform that also uses a 1" ball, so you can mix our bases, arms and heads with hardware you already own.

A Tacoma iPad mount is our base, ball and arm plus a 1" ball tablet holder of your own, because Mountech does not make a tablet holder. Keep the arm short. Our tablet in a truck guide covers the setup.

All Mountech products are warrantied against manufacturing defects and material failures for the entire life of the product, limited to the original purchaser with proof of purchase. Normal wear and abuse are not covered. Contact us and we will take care of it.
