Silverado and Sierra Large-Cubby Dash Mount Install (2019-2023)
A 2020 GMC Sierra phone mount or a 2020 Chevy Silverado phone mount should start with the storage cubby in the dash top. On the right truck, that cubby is a deep, wide tray that a steel bracket drops into without drilling, and the phone ends up central, in your peripheral vision and off every vent. This is how to check that you have the right cubby, and how the install goes.
The 30-Second Cubby Check
Open the lid on the cubby in the top of the dash. A wide, deep tray is the large cubby and the kit fits. A narrower, shallower tray in the same spot is the small cubby and it does not. Trim names are not a reliable guide; the dash is. Our cubby guide has photos of both.

What the Kit Is
The large-cubby dash mount is a bracket manufactured from 12ga mild steel with a black texture powdercoat that sits close to the factory dash finish. The slots are sized for AMPS standard attachments, so a SpinLok ball base bolts to it, and so does a second base for a second device. The kit ships with the bracket, all necessary hardware and printed instructions. It installs without drilling.
Why the Cubby Is the Right Spot
Central, so the phone sits in your peripheral vision without blocking the road. High enough to read, low enough to stay off the glass. No vent behind it, so nothing gets blocked and nothing sags. And the bracket is bolted into the truck, so the phone does not slide around the tray the way it did on the drive home from the dealer.
Pick the Head, Keep the Arm Short
The cubby kit usually runs the 1.5" or 3" arm; shorter is stiffer and the cubby already puts the phone within reach. For a work truck we would run the spring-loaded cradle, which grips any case. For one-handed on and off, the magnetic, MagSafe-compatible holder, with wireless charging if you want it.
Step by Step: Installing the Large-Cubby Dash Mount
- Do the cubby check. If it is the small cubby, stop here and run the vacuum cup base instead.
- Empty the cubby and follow the printed instructions to set the steel bracket in the tray with the included hardware. No drilling.
- Bolt a SpinLok ball base to the AMPS slots where you want the phone, or thread the ball straight into the bracket.
- Clamp the arm, clamp the holder, set the angle with the phone in it, tighten the single knob.
- Snap cable clips on the arm and route the charge cable so it stays off the screen and the buttons.
- Close the cubby lid. Check the angle after the first gravel road and leave it.
Silverado and Sierra Dash Mount FAQs
Does the kit fit a 2020 Silverado 1500?
Yes, every trim, if it has the large cubby. Same for the 2019-2021 Sierra 1500.
Will it fit a 2022 or 2023 truck?
Only the trims that kept the pre-refresh dash: Silverado WT, Custom and Custom Trail Boss, the Sierra Pro, and the early-build 2022 Limited. LT and above, and SLE and above, got the refreshed dash for 2022 and the kit does not fit it.
Does it fit the 2500 HD and 3500 HD?
Yes, 2020-2023, all trims. Same cubby, same bracket.
Do I have to drill?
No. The bracket installs in the cubby tray with the included hardware.
Can I run a second device?
Yes. The AMPS slots take a second ball base for a dash cam or a second phone.
