Which Phone Mount Fits Your Silverado, Sierra, Colorado or Canyon? The Large Cubby vs. Small Cubby Question, Explained
GM did phone-mount shoppers no favors.
Two nearly identical trucks from the same year can have different dashes, the difference has an unofficial name (“large cubby” vs. “small cubby”) that appears in zero owner's manuals, and a 2024 refresh changed the interior again. The result: GM truck owners return dash mounts at a rate other truck owners do not, almost always because of a fitment miss, not a product flaw.

Start Here: Identify Your Dash in 30 Seconds
Look at the center of your dash, above the infotainment screen and below the windshield. Silverado 1500, Silverado HD, Sierra 1500 and Sierra HD trucks from the 2019–2023 era have a storage cubby molded into the dash top there, and GM built it in two sizes depending on trim and configuration.
A wide, deep tray spanning a broad section of the upper dash. If you can lose a wallet, sunglasses and a garage remote in there at the same time, that is the large cubby.
A narrower, shallower pocket. Same location, noticeably less real estate.
That cubby is the mounting point. A dash mount anchors into the cubby area and turns dead storage into a rigid device platform, which is why the size decides everything.
Trim names do not decide this; configuration does. Two LTZs can differ. Look at the dash, not the window sticker.
Silverado & Sierra 2019–2023: What Fits
If your truck has the large cubby, the Dash Mount for GMC Sierra and Chevrolet Silverado 1500 (2019–2023, Large Cubby) is the purpose-built answer, and it covers the HD trucks of the same body style as well.
It installs into the cubby without drilling, holds the 1" (25.4 mm) SpinLok ball high and centered in your sightline, and takes any Mountech arm and holder, spring cradle or MagSafe.
The Honest Answer
We do not currently make a small-cubby-specific kit, and we are not going to tell you the large-cubby kit will fit, because it will not.
Small-cubby owners have a solid path anyway: the Heavy Duty Vacuum Cup Mount. Its 4.5" vacuum cup pulls 120 lb, holds on the windshield or a smooth dash panel, and ends in the same 1" ball as the dedicated kit, so the arm and holder half of your setup is identical either way. Newer Silverado & Sierra: Read Before You Order
GM's newer interiors moved things around, and the 2019–2023 large-cubby kit does not carry forward onto the refreshed dash. If you are in a 2024+ half-ton, the vacuum cup is the current Mountech answer while the catalog catches up with the new body style.
Colorado & Canyon 2023+: The Midsize Kit
The midsize twins got their own engineering. The Dash Mount for Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon (2023+) fits the third-gen midsize dash and is available with a MagSafe holder configuration, which is exactly what most Canyon AT4 and Colorado ZR2 owners come looking for. Same system underneath: 1" ball, interchangeable arms and holders, no drilling.
One distinction worth naming: the 2023+ kit is for the third-generation trucks. Older Colorados and Canyons, 2022 and earlier, are a different dash entirely; the vacuum cup covers those.

Arm, Holder and Extras
Whichever base your truck takes, the rest of the system is shared. Pick an arm length first: shorter is stiffer, and the cubby kits usually want the 1.5" or 3" from the Mounting Arms collection. How do I know if I have the large or small cubby?
Look at the dash-top tray above your screen. Wide and deep enough for a wallet plus sunglasses: large. Narrow pocket: small. When in doubt, email us a photo of your dash and we will confirm before you order.
Does the large cubby kit fit HD trucks?
The 2019–2023 body-style HD trucks with the large cubby, yes. The same identification test applies.
Is there a MagSafe option for the Silverado kit?
Every Mountech base ends in the same 1" ball, so the MagSafe holder drops onto any of these setups.
Will you make a 2024+ Silverado kit or a small cubby kit?
